Aryan Maan is a young student leader from Bahadurgarh, Haryana, who rose to prominence in 2025 after being elected as the President of the Delhi University Students’ Union (DUSU). Born on 20 February 2003, Aryan is just 22 years old but has already made a strong mark in student politics. He represents the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) and is known for his active role in campaigns for student welfare, including demands for subsidised metro passes, free Wi-Fi, better sports facilities, and financial support for research scholars.

Coming from a politically active business family, Aryan grew up in an environment where leadership and public service were part of everyday life. His father, Sikander Maan, is a businessman and former village sarpanch, while his grandfather was the head of a khap panchayat. Despite this strong family background, Aryan has built his own identity as a football player, student activist, and now a youth leader.

    Early Life and Childhood

Aryan was born on 20 February 2003 in Bahadurgarh, Haryana, a town known for its mix of tradition and modern aspirations. His childhood was shaped by a family that was both politically active and deeply involved in business. His father, Sikander Maan, is a businessman and has served as the sarpanch of Lowa Kalan village twice. His grandfather was the head of the seventeen Khap Panchayat, a position of influence in Haryana’s rural society.

Growing up in such an environment meant that Aryan was exposed to leadership, decision-making, and community service from a very young age. His family’s involvement in the liquor trade, through ADS Spirits Private Limited, also gave him a close look at how business and politics often intersect in Haryana. His uncle, Dalbir Singh Maan, was once close to former Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda before shifting his support to the BJP.

    Family Background

His grandfather, Late Shri Chand Maan, was a respected wrestler and the head of the Lova Satrah Khap, a traditional community council that holds significant influence in the region. His father, Sikandar Maan, is a businessman and the Executive Director of ADS Spirits Private Limited, a liquor manufacturing company based in Beri, Jhajjar. The company is associated with the popular Royal Green whisky brand, and in the financial year ending March 2024, it reported revenues of over ₹1,590 crore.

Aryan’s uncle, Dalbir Singh Maan, was once close to former Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda before shifting his support to the BJP. This political flexibility reflects the family’s ability to adapt to changing political currents in Haryana. Aryan’s elder brother, Virat Maan, is also deeply involved in the family business. He serves as the CEO of ADS Group and the Director of RocoBrand, a company linked to the family’s liquor trade.

    Education Journey

Aryan’s education began at St. Thomas School in Bahadurgarh, where he studied until the 5th standard. Later, he moved to G.D. Goenka School in Vasant Kunj, Delhi, where he completed his schooling up to the 12th standard. This shift from a local school to a prestigious Delhi institution exposed him to a wider world and gave him the confidence to interact with diverse groups of students.

After school, Aryan joined Hansraj College, Delhi University, one of the most prestigious colleges in India. He pursued a Bachelor of Commerce (B.Com) degree, which he completed in 2025. His admission was secured through the sports quota, thanks to his achievements as a national-level football player. Currently, Aryan is pursuing a Master’s degree in Library Science at Delhi University

Student Life and Early Leadership Traits

Aryan’s love for football has been a constant throughout his student life. He played at the national level, which gave him recognition and helped him secure admission to Hansraj College. His involvement in sports also shaped his leadership style — teamwork, discipline, and resilience became part of his personality.

Even before contesting elections, Aryan was active in ABVP-led campaigns. He participated in protests against fee hikes and pushed for better infrastructure in Delhi University colleges. These activities gave him visibility among students and helped him build a reputation as a hands-on leader rather than a symbolic candidate.

    Entry into Student Politics

Aryan Maan’s entry into student politics was not sudden. During his undergraduate years at Hansraj College, he became active in the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), the student wing of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS). His early involvement included campaigns against fee hikes and demands for better infrastructure in Delhi University colleges. These were issues that directly affected students, and Aryan’s ability to speak about them in simple, relatable terms helped him gain recognition.

Aryan was not just a symbolic face for ABVP. He was often seen on the ground, leading protests, addressing small student gatherings, and engaging with peers in hostels and classrooms. His reputation grew as someone who was approachable and willing to listen. This grassroots image distinguished him from leaders who were seen as distant or overly political.

    The 2024 DUSU Elections

The 2024 DUSU elections were significant because the National Students’ Union of India (NSUI), the student wing of the Congress party, made a comeback after seven years. NSUI won the President and Joint Secretary posts, while ABVP secured the Vice President and Secretary positions. This result was seen as a turning point, breaking ABVP’s dominance and setting the stage for a more competitive 2025 election.

For ABVP, the 2024 results were a wake-up call. The organisation realised that it needed strong, relatable candidates who could connect with students on everyday issues. Aryan, with his grassroots activism and sports background, emerged as a natural choice for the 2025 presidential candidate.

    The 2025 DUSU Elections Campaign

Aryan’s campaign combined traditional methods like posters and student meetings with modern outreach through social media. He also received high-profile endorsements from Bollywood actors Sanjay Dutt and Randeep Hooda, who released video messages urging students to support him. These endorsements gave his campaign a celebrity edge and helped him connect with younger voters.

The campaign was marked by high student engagement. Polling was held on 18 September 2025 across 52 centres and 195 booths, with a voter turnout of 39.45%5. Aryan’s ability to mobilise students from diverse backgrounds — rural, urban, day scholars, and hostel residents — was a key factor in his success.

    Election Day and Results

Voting took place in two phases: from 8:30 am to 1 pm for day scholars and from 3 pm to 7:30 pm for evening students. The counting was conducted at the University Sports Stadium multipurpose hall, with 18 rounds of counting before the final results were declared.

On 19 September 2025, Aryan was declared the President of DUSU. He secured 28,841 votes, defeating NSUI’s Joslyn Nandita Choudhary, who received 12,645 votes. The margin of victory was a decisive 16,196 votes. This meant ABVP won three of the four key posts, re-establishing its dominance in Delhi University politics.

    Celebrations and Public Reception

Although the Delhi High Court banned victory processions to maintain order, celebrations still broke out across the campus. Aryan and his team were carried on the shoulders of supporters, draped in garlands, and cheered by students at the Swami Vivekananda statue in Arts Faculty. The atmosphere was festive but more disciplined compared to previous years, with fewer posters and no loud processions.

Aryan addressed the media soon after the results, dedicating his victory to Delhi University students, his village, and the khap panchayats that supported him. He emphasised that his win was not just about politics but about trust and student welfare. After the results, Aryan visited his native village, Lowa Kalan in Bahadurgarh, where he received a grand welcome.

    Role as DUSU President (2025–26)

After his victory in September 2025, Aryan wasted no time in outlining his immediate priorities as DUSU President. His first focus was on student welfare measures that had been central to his campaign. Within days of taking office, Aryan confirmed that he had already begun discussions with Delhi authorities about concessional metro passes for students. This was one of his most popular promises, as thousands of students commute daily from across Delhi and NCR.

He also pushed for the implementation of free Wi-Fi across campus, a demand that has been raised for years but never fully realised. Aryan argued that in an era where digital access is essential for research and learning, students should not be left behind due to connectivity issues.

    Alignment with ABVP

Aryan is a member of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), the student wing of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS). His campaign and speeches have reflected ABVP’s broader ideology of “Nation First”, combined with a focus on student welfare and campus development.

Aryan’s vision is shaped by his own background. Coming from Bahadurgarh, Haryana, he understands the struggles of students who migrate to Delhi for education. His campaign themes of affordability, accessibility, and infrastructure reforms were designed to resonate with this diverse student population.
